Analog; Very Wide Receiver
Review byBrian
The difference between this and the Yaesu 70DR is this, the Yaesu 60R has greater receiver gamut(700 to 999.99 is only on the Yaesu 60R), while the 70DR, being digital, is far better at putting in countless scanner frequencies for monitoring, like police, school, and the like. Both start at 108 instead of adding 75-105 for FM music stations across the world. For Amateur Radio both are amazing and only limited by how much time a person puts into reading the manual.
This is to say, that without an amateur radio license, the Yaesu 60R may limit your listening to weather channels depending on your location, while the Yaesu 70DR has many things to listen to without an amateur radio license, but after an amateur radio license, the increase in RF range may make the Yaesu 60R appeal more.
The 60E and 60R vary in a few things, like defaults, and more importantly the 60R can be used on the A/C adapter, while the 60E is charged with the A/C adapter(and can therefore be overcharged on the A/C adapter, whereas the 60R can’t be overcharged on the A/C adapter because it cannot be charged on the A/C adapter)

Powerful and easy to learn
Review byThomas
I was programming and hitting repeaters over 20 miles away within minutes. Did even better when I hooked it up to my roof mount antenna. Great radio.

Excellent Radio
Review byDavid
A very good radio. Battery life is adequate for my needs. Range is excellent using high power and the stock antenna. There's something to be said for having a squelch knob instead of setting a number. The red LED display illumination allows you to view the display without being too bright. It can get loud, too, for when you need it. I would buy this again.

Nice radio
Review byBilly
Built like a tank! What a nice little radio. Feels like quality in your hand. Don’t let the age of this Gem fool you. It’s a performer. I see why it’s still around after all this time.

Great First Radio
Review byWalt Flanagan
I have had my ticket for several years but haven’t done much, if anything, during that time.......mostly due to frustration. My cheap “starter” handheld was difficult for me to program. Fast forward to last week, I bought a FT-60R. Programmed it with a quick start guide found online. I love it. Perfect for a new user and all of my previous frustration is gone. This is a great radio at a great price. Also, I ordered at lunch time on Tuesday and my radio was delivered Wednesday. I don’t have a negative thing to say about the radio or my transaction with Gigaparts!

Best affordable HT in my opinion.
Review bydesertpeaks
This has to be the best affordable real HT you can buy! A proven workhorse that will last many years. No wonder why it's many peoples first radio. What's not to like about it. No wonder why they made these for many years. If mine were lost or ruined, I'd buy another.

Great radio
Review byjoe KD9LNQ
I have only had this radio for a few days, but it has worked very well for me since I have had it. I've been using it since the first day I received it and it is user friendly and easy to setup. I was looking around for quite some time for a radio that was bigger and fits well in the hand, and this was it. The size of the radio is great and so was the price. I will be doing more business here.
